Hyatt Regency (Kathmandu, Nepal)
I was very lazy this morning and slept in late. Mainly I was thinking about what to see and do while in Kathmandu. Yes, typical me, not having each day planned. Just a general idea.
There were three things I needed to do today. Visit an ATM to get cash, since using cash is most common here, visit the hotel’s travel desk, and get a pedicure in the hotel’s spa.
I first visited the travel desk and found out that there were no inexpensive helicopter flights to the mountains and they confirmed that a plane, which would be most cost-effective and would provide the same views. I also made arrangements for two half-day driving tours of the city and surrounding areas. While the travel agent was writing up the orders I visited the ATM and also made an appointment for a pedicure in the spa.
The flight tomorrow starts at 6:30 a.m. and my driver will be at the hotel to pick me up at 5:30 a.m. Glad I had plenty of rest today! Once the orders were complete I took the elevator to down to the spa. The hotel’s fitness center and spa are very complete. They even have a small selection of weight machines in addition to the usual treadmills.
The woman who gave me a pedicure was very good and careful not to injure me. I’ve learned that toes can be very sensitive. She gave me a relaxing foot massage as well. My feet felt very happy after the pedicure was finished.
I returned to my room for a little while then a small dinner in the lounge. I paid a little extra for my room so my breakfast and finger-food dinner are free. So many things to select from for dinner. One of the more complete drinks and finger food setups that I’ve seen in a hotel. Without being too obvious you can get a full meal if you make another pass over the food bar.
When I returned to my room I tried to get Netflix to work. There was something about the connectivity where this service was having trouble. I settled to watch YouTube videos instead.
As I was watching TV I saw something out of the corner of my eye. It almost looked like a mouse dashing across the room. I thought maybe my eyes were playing a trick on me. Then I saw it two more times before I saw what was either a mouse or a small rat. I wasn’t expecting that.
I knew I had to change rooms so I called the front desk to let them know about the small creature in my room and that I’d like another room. They started to offer to have someone capture it but I insisted on a new room. While I waited for the room to become available I packed up everything and was ready when my escort arrived.
My new room has a nice view of a nearby temple and was just like my former room but turned around. I tried to sleep but couldn’t. Perhaps it was due to moving rooms or anticipating my flight tomorrow. Or both. In any case, 4:45 a.m. came too early.
