Barrack Street #32 The Arches (Kilkenny, Ireland)
I woke up at 6:00 a.m. to begin the process of cleaning and packing. Thankfully I halfway packed the night before so it didn’t take too long. Since I only have so much room in my suitcase I pack so I use as much of the available space as possible. Mainly it boils down to first putting in my clothes, mostly rolled up, and then stuffing the odds and ends into the remaining free space. I wear my waterproof hiking boots when I travel and put my walking shoes, because they take up less room, in the suitcase and fill each shoe with small items.
My goal was to be out of the flat by 8:00 a.m. and I walked out at 7:58. Calling a taxi for a lift to the trains station didn’t work out since the first three I called were too busy to pick me up right away. Well, I had a half an hour before the train was to arrive so I decided to walk. It really isn’t too far to walk but I didn’t want to push my suitcase up a hill, but I made it to the station with time to spare.
The train took me to Heuston Station in Dublin and I had planned to take a taxi to the bus depot to catch an express bus to the airport. The taxi driver suggested I just take a taxi all the way since the express bus would be around 10 Euro. I decided to take him up on the offer. The cost would be a little more but would be much more convenient.
The only delay in getting to Aberdeen was waiting to take off at the Dublin airport. It put us about an hour behind schedule due to an issue with the luggage. Also another delay in driving by taxi from the Aberdeen airport to the hotel because of a major exposition near the airport that clogged the traffic. But I made it to the hotel and got checked into my room. End to end it took almost 10 hours to go from Kilkenny to Aberdeen.
My room has a nice view of the North Sea and is large thanks to my Hilton upgrade. It wasn’t long before I took a nap and will order a meal from room service before I continue my Star Trek movies. Last night I watched one movie and started to watch the next in the series. I’ll probably do the same tonight.
Breakfast is served starting at 6:30 tomorrow and then later I’ll take a bus to meet my Airbnb hosts who will drive me to their property. Should be an easy day tomorrow and will be nice to enjoy traveling in the Scottish Highlands.
