Prague, Czech Republic (8 Bechynova, Prague 6)
I forgot to mention in yesterday’s posting that the bed that I’m sleeping on is a futon. I had a futon in my younger years, which was fine for me then, but now these old bones and muscles really appreciate a soft bed. As a result, I was out of bed by 6:30 a.m. this morning because I couldn’t sleep one more minute in that bed.
After drinking my coffee and taking a shower, I researched the best way to walk to the Prague Castle. Also, I put another load of clothes in the washer before I left the flat. It was a beautiful Saturday morning and took my time walking to the castle. Of course the castle is up on a hill, which required a little more effort to make it up a few of the hills. I rested periodically.
True to form, I didn’t do much research about the castle before arriving on the grounds. Prague had minimal damage from World War II, so most everything is original – except when, over the course of time, it was decided to remove a building or incorporate the latest style to the existing structure. (My Airbnb host explained this to me.)
If one likes to look at old buildings, then Prague is the city to visit. Most all of the buildings that I saw today on my walk were in good to excellent condition. Very clean city with good public transportation.
When I arrived at the castle complex, which reminded me of Windsor Castle, it wasn’t easy to figure out what to see. There are a number of churches within the grounds, with one primary church in the center. Since it was Saturday there were long lines to get in most of the buildings. I found a church (St. George) that had a relatively short line, and was one of the oldest buildings on the grounds.
It was now 12:30 and I was getting hungry and decided to just have a hotdog and some water for lunch. I also needed to find a restroom. After I finished with taking care of my basic needs, my Airbnb host recommended walking down through the old mote area and see the castle from a different perspective, which I did.
I guess my tour today lasted about two and a half hours, which was fine with me. On the way home I stopped by a store to pick up a couple of items so I could make chicken noodle soup tonight.
When I returned to the flat I saw that I’d walked over 18,000 steps. I took a shower, and set the machine to dry so my clothes that were washed earlier would be ready to hang up when I woke from my nap.
Really nice to have everything I need to make something in the kitchen. I finished watching a movie that I started to watch last night while the soup was cooking.
After dinner I loaded the dishwasher and got it to run while I tried to take another nap. The first nap was too short and I needed at least an hour to make up on the sleep I didn’t get last night.
I started to watch the new “Lost in Space” tonight. It took a couple of episodes before I started to get interested. Quite a change from the series from the 60’s, but it wouldn’t work if they tried to re-create the program as it was back then.
Tomorrow I will go for some walks in a few of the nearby parks. It will be a good day for people watching and just enjoying the scenery now that the trees have all of their leaves and flowers are in bloom.
