Edinburgh, Scotland (15 York Place)

Finally got some good sleep, after I figured out how to quiet the fan in the bathroom. It was keeping me awake – even from the next room. I’m used to bathrooms either having a fan that automatically starts when you turn on the light or has a separate switch. This bathroom has neither. The fan was continuously on. I woke up at 3:00 a.m. and decided to cut the power to the fan by flipping switches in the fuse box until I found the right one. Next morning I found the on/off switch located in the bedroom closet. I slept in until 10:30.

After getting the last of my clothes and other stuff put away I left to sign up at the same gym when I was here last year at this time. I didn’t plan it this way, but it is now a 10 minute walk away from where I’m staying. Closer than when I was here last year. I’m liking it here a lot.

Once I was signed up at the gym, my next stop was to buy food for the next few days. Tesco Express, just down the street, is good for picking up the common items, but I wanted to have a chicken roast for dinner tonight. I also needed a roasting pan and a stock pot to make soup. Marks & Spencer had both. This store is also somewhat close by.

On my way to Marks & Spencer I took a picture of the castle that sits above the city. You know you’re in Edinburgh when you see the castle.

After I returned home I left again to get a haircut. The last one that I had was in Munich, which was several weeks ago. The barber shop was also nearby. Great to be in a place where everything is conveniently located.

Before making dinner, I enjoyed a decent nap. Another challenge in the first day or so if figuring out how the appliances work, in this case, the stove. Nice to have options, but I enjoy turning a knob to bake, then setting the temperature. This stove has many options for both the oven and the heating elements. After a few minutes, I got it figured out. After dinner, the next appliance was the dishwasher. It was so quiet, I wasn’t sure if it was working. Tomorrow, the clothes washer.

The TV has Netflix and all the UK channels. Think I’ll have some relaxing evenings getting caught up on the TV that I haven’t watched is several months.

Tomorrow I’m going to Glasgow to see a performance by some Facebook friends who I haven’t met. Friends of a friend. I’ll write more about it tomorrow. Looking forward to another night of uninterrupted sleep.
