Last night I slept on the couch. I was going to sleep on the mattress provided by the Airbnb host, but the couch looked like the better of the two. Amazingly, I slept very well and was up at 7:30 a.m. and ready for coffee. There is a coffee / bakery downstairs and I went down and picked up a coffee for me and an assortment of baked goods to share.
We finally got out the door at noon and headed to the train station for our trip to Nuremberg. Not sure who sets the prices for the trains, but thought 112 Euros was a bit steep for the relatively short ride. But I wanted to visit Nuremberg so bought the ticket.
The trip took a little over an hour and we where in Nuremberg at about 1:30 p.m. We walked around until we found place for a late lunch. Of course we sat and talked for awhile as the time started to approach 3:00. Walked around a little more and then visited St Lorenz (St. Lawrence) church.
St. Lorenz is a medieval church that was started in 1250 and completed in 1477. It was heavily damaged in World War II and restored later. When we entered the sanctuary the organist was practicing prior to the 5:00 service. We sat and listened then walked around the interior.
The Pegnitz flows through Nuremberg and I took some pictures from one of the bridges that spans the river. Really nice pictures taken in the late afternoon.
We visited a restaurant located in one of the tunnels that ran underneath Nuremberg. Was a good place for a beer and more conversation. We really had to watch our heads as we took the stairs into the restaurant due to the low ceiling.
From there we walked around some more before deciding it was getting late and time to return to Munich. We picked up some groceries at the train station then met the train for the return back.
We are getting up early tomorrow to visit another town. Another train ride and another place to admire the Bavarian architecture.
