Was packed and on my way to the train station by 10:30. Some rain and overcast. Had a full breakfast and ready for the train ride to Genoa, then on to Milan where I’ll board a plane for Munich.

Got concerned when I couldn’t book the train from Genoa to Milan. Asked for help from a train representative on the platform who made sure that I had a ticket that would take me all the way to the Milan train station. At the Milan station, took an express train to the┬áMilan Malpensa Airport.

Since I a quite a layover at the airport waiting for my plane I updated my travel blog, called my cousin in Portland, and had something to eat. (This is where I should have been double checking my travel arrangements.)

I knew the flight was going to be delayed, but misread my boarding information and rather than 7:55 p.m. being the check-in time, it was the boarding time. The two working the Lufthansa check-in desk and got me and my luggage checked in. Then the rush was on to get through security and to the boarding gate (through the maze of duty-free shops) to the boarding gate. I had in the back of my mind that when there is a delay, the delay is generally longer than what is posted. Fortunately I was correct. No one had boarded the flight when I arrived. I sat down and cooled off after running for 10 minutes. If the flight had been on-time, I would have missed it for sure. Another near miss. And a Lesson Learned.

It was a quick flight up to Munich and found my suitcase then walked to the Hilton Airport Hotel. Thankfully I decided to stay at the airport rather than find a way into Munich. It was nearly 11:00 p.m. and I had been on the move for the last 12 hours. Another surprise when I checked-in, because I’m a gold member of Hilton Honors, and the hotel didn’t have an Executive Lounge, I got to have anything I wanted from the mini-bar. Woo Hoo!

What a great room! So modern. Though no manual light switches it the room. All done by touch panels. Even to flush the toilet. I’ll publish pictures in tomorrow’s post. Checkout time is 11:00 a.m. tomorrow. I’ll have just enough time for breakfast and to finish up blog posting tomorrow morning, then will meet up with Andre and Matt.
