Woke up to some beautiful sunshine this morning. I had the flat to myself so finished up some pre-packing activities, such as sorting out what clothes to take (and what to donate), confirm travel arrangements, answered emails, and the other morning duties.
My main interest for today was to go for a long walk. Started my walk from Green Park, to St James’s Palace, Buckingham Palace (and gift shop), Wellington Arch, Piccadilly, Soho, Sloan Square and then home.
From Green Park, I walked over to St. James’s Palace. Below is St James’s Palace, from the front entrance and a look down one side. It isn’t open to the public. Within the environs of the palace is Clarence House, the home of Prince Charles and Camilla.
Pall Mall (below) connects St James’s Street to Trafalgar Square.
Buckingham Palace Gift Shop (it was packed with people). Loved the stuffed Corgi dogs.
Buckingham Palace Security (top of garden wall and car barrier nearby)
After my walk, I purchased a new suitcase. The one from Budapest, the handle no longer works.
When I got home, we decided to have a going away dinner since I’m leaving tomorrow for Paris and Prean is leaving for Rwanda. Ate at a local favorite restaurant and had some fresh halibut and salmon. I took pictures of our desserts (dates, toffee, brulee).
Tomorrow, before I leave, I will visit the Elizabeth Tower and Big Ben. The tower, clock and bell will be undergoing a 3-year restoration. When I return later this year, the tower will probably be encased in scaffolding.
