I’m in the Jordaan district in Amsterdam with so many interesting streets and canals everywhere. History too!
Finally settled in Amsterdam with my housing. Wasn’t able to check into my Airbnb on Tuesday – the person who was to check me in didn’t show up, so I had good fortune to book a fine boutique hotel down the street and book another Airbnb for the next few days. Also was fortunate to meet up with Rich, who along with his wife, Cathy, were introduced to me on-line via a mutual friend from OHSU. Cathy couldn’t join us on Tuesday, so Rich and I met up for a beer than walked around to find somewhere to eat. Rich, who is very familiar with the history of Amsterdam, was an excellent guide and gave me a personal walking tour as we were looking for a restaurant. We went by the Anne Frank home (and the long line of people waiting to get in) where I took a picture.

After a good walk, we found a Spanish restaurant, specializing in tapas. Rich selected the wine and we both really enjoyed our meals. I’ll get a chance to meet up with Cathy for dinner tonight where we will have a rice (rijstafel) dinner. Something new to try!

My revised location is on a side canal so is quiet and off the beaten path, but still within walking distance to the main attractions. After moving in, I went to the local market and picked up a few items to cook while staying in the flat. The flat is on the 2nd floor (3rd floor in the U.S.) and the walk up is really steep, but have a good view of the canal below.

While walking around yesterday, I found a number of museums. Included below are some pictures.
Tulip Museum
Cheese Museum
Hash Museum
The weather cleared up in the evening and decided to do some more walking. Great evening for taking pictures. Enjoy pictures with the sunlight in the clouds. Some random pictures below.

Wow – So Many Red Lights!
And in this direction too!
And then it dawned on me where I was. So I had to have a look. Oh, and found another museum.
Sure, why not a museum?
(No, the person standing in the doorway is not me. I didn’t go in.)
Today I’m looking forward to the Van Gogh Museum and will get back in time to meet up with Rich and Cathy.
More updates soon!
